Tocharians - shenanigans with the genetic studies?

 Salvate Omnes,

regarding the linguistic group known  as the Tocharians, the easternmost branch of the Indoeuropean language family? after 1700BC (we are the People of the Horse), and before the Ancient North Eurasians(ANE) :

I read this article with disbelief -

and then I found this article in contra  to the 'science ' presented -

and then this article about the shenanigans allegedly  perpetrated in this estimable institution?

uff, there is science and there is politics(in my other career I have seen FBI labs engaged in some 'strang'e behavior regarding DNA & contaminated evidence in criminal proceedings), there is law and there is political trial (like in the Soviet or Communist China cases) , American case in point may be the Kyle Rittenhouse' trail in Kenosha, Wisconsin (currently, i.e., since this morning  the jury deliberation have been taking place).

anyway, back to the story - this researcher has the following article - Don't believe everything you read in peer reviewed papers.
and per my fellow Poles and our ancestry - a little in size but large in content article with a very vigorous discussion under the article. And the larger site - Khazaria - where Polish DNA ancestry is discussed -

and some images from the famous Kizil Caves
These Tarim basin caves, in the Chinese  Xinjiang autonomous region, are  the UNESCO site these days.

Cheiron - periodical on equine history with many libre articles

 Salvete Omnes,

another link today, and what a link it may be - the International Journal of Equine and Equestrian History titled 'Cheiron' offers many an interesting article.
The Vol 1 issue 1 - November 2021, - the publishers and editors have made all its content accessible for libre download.

So if you like your horse history or would like to learn some then do enjoy downloading and reading the articles.

Nota bene the name 'Cheiron' is a variation of the ancient Greek 'Chiron/Kheiron' - or a famous centaur of the ancient Greek mythology, teacher of Achilles. Also can peruse wiki gallery looking for centaurs.

3rd Silesian Uhlan Regiment -then and nowadays

 Salvete Omnes,
staying in the spirit of Polish Independence Day - I would like to point you, dear Net surfer, to a video presentation about one of the Poland's Volunteer Cavalry Federation's units, namely the 3rd Silesian Uhlan Cavalry Regiment, reenacted mostly by the citizens from in the Silesian(old Upper Silesia) voivodeship,  in the olden days Silesia was the so called Pearl of the Polish state.

So, here there are two video links showing reenactors from the 3rd Silesian Regiment squadron.
First, the most recent, from Kedzierzyn Kozle presentation in November 2021 -here
and the 2019 production - here

The 3rd Silesian -  1917-39 - cavalry regiment of the Second Polish Republic was quite famous and well known during its historic existence. The regiment fought in the 1917-20 war for Polish Restoration, and with bravery and distinction during the tragic and calamitous September 1939 campaign.
The regiment cultivated the tradition of the 3rd Uhlan regiment of the Duchy of Warsaw, and 3rd Uhlan Regiment of Kingdom of Poland (in union with Russian empire 1815-30, 1831-1917).
They had yellow-white pennon of their lance, and their home was in Tarnowskie Gory and Pszczyna (one, 34r squadron).

In 2014 they(Wanda Ponikiewska&Bogumil Twardowski) published the memoirs of one of the uhlans who participated in the 1919-20 war with the Red Army of the Bolshevik Russia and some action against the independent Lithuania's army- Zbigniew Karlowski(1900-1920). Zbigniew received Krzyz Walacznych (Cross of Valour) and posthumously Polish Cross Virtuti Militari 3rd class. He died in Grodno (now in Belarus) on Nove 2, 1921, from the wounds received during the miltiary operation cumulatively known of the Niemen River Battle.

Equestrian Monuments in Polish squares and Pilsudski

 Salvete Omnes,

Yesterday Polish Republic - Respublica Poloniae - and Poles from around the world celebrated the Independence Day - November 11.

I would like to corral some of equestrian monuments dedicated to a man who has become, since 1937AD, the embodiment of the restored Polish  Independence - no matte what political spectrum.
Hence, the equestrian monuments to Jozef Pilsudski and Polish Independence in Poland-
I think one of the most interesting monuments is the one from Katowice, capital of Upper Silesia voivodeship.

It was paid for by the Polish Silesian citizens and sculpted in America by a fellow Slav, Croatian artist Antun Augustincic, in 1930s- the sculpture w was never delivered to Poland as II World War erupted and after the 1945 the Polish Soviet puppet state (than a satellite-state after 1956 ) was active destroying monuments to Pilsudski - like the one in Komarow  near Ostrowia Mazowiecka. Augustincic's monument went into his museum in then Yugoslavia, and finally arrived in Poland in 1991.

There used to be a monument in Tarnopol, now Ukraine, in the then Sobieski Square, but it was destroyed by the Soviets.

In Komarow, near Ostrowia Mazowiecka, there was a monument sculpted by Antoni Pług-Mierzewski, survived the Nazi and Soviet invasion and destruction,  and the Polish Communists destroyed it in 1954; and it was rebuilt in 1999 and can be admired and celebrated.

Then the old royal city of Lublin (the famous site of many monumental and important events in Polish history) also has a monument - sculpted Krzysztof Skora and erected in the restored Republic in the Lublin's Lithuanian Square (the symbol of the Polish-Lithuanian Union) in 2001 .

Town of Nysa, Lower Silesia voivodeship, has a monument sculpted by  Marian Molenda.

Town of Nowy Sacz, Malopolskie voivodeship, has a monument too, erected  in 2018 - sculpted by Stanislaw Szwechowicz.

City of Rzeszow, Podkarpackie voivodeship, has had the monument erected recently, in 2018- sculpted by Wladyslaw Dudek.

and so yesterday in many Polish cities and towns marches were held to commemorated the Independence Day - the largest in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. Interestingly or sadly  the current mayor of the Poland's capital city  was against the march, and went to a local court to prohibit it on some spurious grounds, and the Polish government stepped in and made the march of some 150,000 happy citizens possible. All the main stream media (MSM) from the US, UK, Canada were calling Polish citizens marching right-wing and nationalists. No MSM called these marches patriotic and the Polish marchers the patriots... Is patriotism or the warm and kind feeling towards one's country history, tradition,  national colors and emblems a crime in the light of those for-profit media agencies and outlets?

Long live Polish Independence.

I took a screen from the MN stream yesterday -

and yesterday there was the Veterans Day in the US - I hope all had a peaceful one.

Shalmaneser III receives tribute in horses - dais from Nimrud

Salvete Omnes,
we have not visited the ancient Assyrian in a while.

so here we have something worthy of our look and study - the dais of the Neo-Assyrian king Shalmaneser III throne, where he himself was carved into several scenes along with his vassals and tributaries.

And as usual with the Neo-Assyrian kingdom their horse is featured and it is shown prominently in this relief, these chariot horses are tribute from the Chaldeans and Neo-Hittites.

. This dais was found in the eastern end of the throne room (T1) at Fort Shalmaneser in the city of Nimrud (in modern-day Nineveh Governorate, Iraq) in 1962 CE. The front and sides of the dais were carved in relief depicting various tributary scenes. The dais was completed around 846-845 BCE (and that would be the king's 13th year of reign).

This scene is part of a long tributary one where the Shalmaneser III (r. 858-824 BCE) receives Chaldean tribute from Musallim-Marduk, son of Ukani. On the right, a groom leads a pair of horses, unharnessed except for the halter by which they are controlled. This is followed by a second group of tribute bearers. The procession is headed by a bearded male figure (probably the prince). Before him, a smaller male figure (child), probably his son, appears. Both raise their hands in a homage or submission gesture. They are followed by a chamberlain bearing his staff of office, followed by a bearded figure carrying in his extended hands a small tray of loaf-like objects, perhaps ingots of some relatively precious metal.

This scene is part of a long tributary one where Shalmaneser III (r. 858-824 BCE) receives tribute from Qalparunda (c. mid 9th Century BCE) of the Land of Unqi (a Luwian Syri-Hittite state, also known as Pattin). This is the rear part of the tributary procession. The rear is brought up by two grooms in long, belted tunics, one brandishing a whip, and each leading a pair of ornately caparisoned horses

During the ransacking of the Iraq Museum in April 2003 CE, this object[dais] was not vandalized and remained intact. It is on display at the Assyrian Gallery of the Iraq Museum in Baghdad, Republic of Iraq.

Origin and spread of horse domestication - latest DNA research

 Salvete Omnes,

and just a quick link - to the October 2021 Nature Magazine article titled:

The origins and spread of domestic horses from the Western Eurasian steppes -

 from the article's abstract:

Domestication of horses fundamentally transformed long-range mobility and warfare. However, modern domesticated breeds do not descend from the earliest domestic horse lineage associated with archaeological evidence of bridling, milking and corralling at Botai, Central Asia around 3500 BC.

Other longstanding candidate regions for horse domestication, such as Iberia and Anatolia6, have also recently been challenged. Thus, the genetic, geographic and temporal origins of modern domestic horses have remained unknown. Here we pinpoint the Western Eurasian steppes, especially the lower Volga-Don region, as the homeland of modern domestic horses.

Furthermore, we map the population changes accompanying domestication from 273 ancient horse genomes. This reveals that modern domestic horses ultimately replaced almost all other local populations as they expanded including Sintashta spoke-wheeled chariots. We find that equestrianism involved strong selection for critical locomotor and behavioural adaptations at the GSDMC and ZFPM genes. Our results reject the commonly held association between horseback riding and the massive expansion of Yamnaya steppe pastoralists into Europe around 3000 BC.driving the spread of Indo-European languages.

This contrasts with the scenario in Asia where Indo-Iranian languages, chariots and horses spread together, following the early second millennium BC Sintashta culture.

Karol & Jazda Konna dla doroslych

 Salvete Omnes,

[in Polish]

mój wieloletni dobry znajomy i czasem gość na blogu Karol Tomczyk wydal sua sponte swoje najnowsze dzieło:

Jazda Konna dla Dorosłych -

opis ustami autora -

''Książka dla początkujących i już jeżdżących konno.

Powstawała bardzo długo z myślą o tych, których nie interesuje sport wyczynowy, czyli skoki i ujeżdżenie

uprawiane w zamkniętej przestrzeni ujeżdżalni i parkuru. Powstała częściowo w opozycji do zasobu wiedzy

Wymienione problemy to ułamek wiedzy którą trzeba zdobyć by być dobrą amazonka lub jeźdźcem i by

 to pieniądze zmarnowane.

Zanim powstała książka moje artykuły ukazały się w pismach "Koń Polski" :

08/2011 ; 08/2012 ; 09/2012; 02/2013; 07/2015; 12/2015; 01/2016; 02/2016 i
