Anegdota o generalach Lubienskim i Krasinskim

We dziele zatytułowanym 'Wspomnienia Mojej Młodości' (Lwów, zabór austriacki, AD 1895) autor Henryk Olechnowicz Stecki herbu Radwan załączył anegdotę o swoim wuju generale hrabim Krasińskim herbu Ślepowron i generale Tomaszu Lubieńskim herbu Pomian,

''Mój  wuj, jenerał [Wincenty] hr. Krasiński, miał w jednym z salonów swego pałacu w Warszawie kilka pokojów, przedstawiających bitwy, w których uczestniczył.

Jeden z nich, bardzo piękny, na obstalunek robiony przez [Horacego] Verneta, wyobraża bitwę pod Samosiera*; wiadomo, że ten wąwóz trudny do wzięcia, zdobyty był przez polskie legiony, wszystkie główniejsze osobistości są tam portretowane, zapomniano o jenerale Tomaszu Lubieńskim, który tam jednak grał wybitną rolę, natomiast na pierwszym planie siedzi na białym koniu jenerał Krasiński, który podczas tej pamiętnej bitwy tam nie był, bo znajdował się ze swoim oddziałem na innej stronie.[1]

Kiedyśmy raz byli na proszonym większym obiedzie u mego wuja, nim otworzono drzwi do jadalnej sali, goście siedzieli w pomienionym salonie, a jenerał Lubieński przypatrywał się kolejno obrazom.

Stal właśnie przed Samosiera, kiedy gospodarz przystąpił do niego i powiedział:
- Dziwna rzecz, jenerale, ze malarz ciebie nie odmalował.

- Dostateczny dla mnie zaszczyt, żem tam był.- opowiedział Lubieński.

Krasiński poczerwieniał i odszedł.

Stałem obok nich w czasie tej rozmowy.''

The Lubomski's Lancer of the Guard - review

short entry - my good new horse of a computer suffered a serious bout of colic of the 'electrical short variety,' ergo I cannot do much with the blog at the moment.

ad rem,  last Spring the Winged Hussar Publishing LLC released Polish Guard Lancers: Uniforms and Equipment 1807 - 1815 by George Lubomski.
I came accross this review on  A Question of Scale wargaming blog and read some more on the TMP boards regarding the book.

I hope those in doubt regarding the portemanteau will peruse pan Lubomski's book to find their answer.  
the UK Amazon reviewers are very generous with their praise for the book, while the US Amazon reviewers' complaints about paper b seem to take over the substantive aspect of the book.(but do not  mention  the rather low price for this type of work).

Jan Nepomucen Bobrowicz - napoleoniki w wigilie Somosierry

zbliża się rocznica Somosierry i 'surfując' zbiory  Biblioteki Narodowej Polona (Federacja Bibliotek Cyfrowych)  natrafiłem na luksusową publikację, którą firmował  weteran Powstania Listopadowego Jan Nepomucen Bobrowicz, emigrant pracujący nad wydawanymi  dziełami polskimi we wciąż przyjaznej Polakom i Polsce, choć ledwie niezależnej od Prus, Saksonii.
Bobrowicz pracował dla wydawnictwa Breitkopf & Haertel z Lipska (wciąż istniejące), i tamże w 1838 roku wydano po polsku pracę  poniższą:
Napoleon Bonaparte czyli Obrazy bitew i czynów wojennych bohatera : 90 rycin na stali podług malowideł w Muzeum Wersalskiem i innych pomników z dodatkiem historycznych objaśnień podług pp. Bourienne [et al.]

Prawie kompletne dzieło jest dostępne w Bibliotece Narodowej -a poniżej zamieszczam niektóre z rycin (oprócz 2 reszta z polskimi motywami):
 










 

Pan Bobrowicz, żołnierz artylerii konnej Powstania Listopadowego i odznaczony krzyzem Orderu Virtuti Militari, był słynnym muzykiem gitarowy, a jako wydawca zasłynął wydaniem 10-tomowego Herbarza Kacpra Niesieckiego, dzieła monumentalnego.

Polish Guard Lancers -new book

it is my pleasure to announce a new English-language publication about the famous Polish horsemen of the Napoleonic era.
Namely,  this coming April the Winged Hussar Publishing LLC will release worldwide the completely new book about the famed Napoleonic Polish Guard Lancers - their uniforms, weapons, equipment and horse tack. It is the first publication about the Polish lancers of this type and of this scope and depth attempted in English language.

The book's author, pan George  Lubomski, is an independent researcher and long-time reenactor of the Polish Guard lancers from the United Kingdom, featured in past publications showing Napoleonic period soldiers. Because of pan George's command of English, Polish and French he was able to bridge the primary source gap when comes to various documents and memoirs, and previously written research on the subject.

 Simon & Schuster and associated platforms (Amazon, Barnes & Noble) will be selling pan George's new opus magnum starting in April.

Komiks Somosierra 1808 - nowy projekt potrzebuje wsparcia

w zeszłym roku minęła kolejna okrągła rocznica wielkiego wydarzenia w historii wojskowości - szarzy Polaków-swoleżerów Gwardii Napoleona I w wąwozie Somosierra w Hiszpanii  AD 1808.

tej zimy moi znajomi ze Szczecina, którzy stworzyli w zeszłym roku komiks historyczny Rokitna , czyli tandem Krzysztof Komaniecki (rysunek i malarstwo etc) et Jacek Stankiewicz (redaktor, teksty etc) tym razem ruszyli prędkim kłusem robić opowieść o wielkiej i niezapomnianej chwili w historii wojen napoleońskich, historii kawalerii i młodego wówczas, składającego się z polskich ochotników, 1 pułku lekkokonnych Gwardii Napoleona I.

Szarża w wąwozie Somosierra jest jedną z wyjątkowych akcji kawalerii w historii tejże broni.

Moi koledzy, parafrazując samego, Napoleona potrzebują 'pieniędzy, pieniędzy i jeszcze raz pieniędzy' żeby doprowadzić projekt do szczęśliwego końca czyli wydania tej doskonalej opowieści o męstwie Polaków i dzielności hiszpańskich obrońców w formie papierowej.

...my friend Krzys Komaniecki has been working on a new comics book retelling the story of the battle and famous charge - he has painted already 10 plates, out of 45-60 pages that the finished hand-painted comics will consist of.

Polish Guard Lancers 1806-1815, G. Lubomski et WHP

I am very happy to announce that another of book projects that I have participated in is coming to fruition (via Simon and Shuster website) -
namely pan George Lubomski, veteran reenactor from UK and presently a colonel of the reenacted Polish Guard Lancers, has written and Winged Hussar Publishing LLC will publish the most comprehensive book on the famous regiment ever written in English.

Polonais, prenez moi cez canons - Somosierra 1808-2016

''Polonais, prenez moi cez canons'' - said Napoleon, emperor of the French
and so this November 30  is yet another anniversary of the famous charge of the elements of Le 1er régiment de chevau-légers lanciers polonais ( the 1st Polish Light Cavalry Regiment of the Imperial Guard)against the Spanish defenders of the Somosierra Pass.
 Young, then, nobleman and officer captain Jan Kozietulski, the first commanding officer of the 3rd squadron, is the most famous cavalryman of this charge... sadly his horse died there and he was unable to complete the capture of the Spanish guns - four consecutive batteries.
 Second commanding officer - captain Jan Nepomucen Dziewanowski - got wounded before the completion of the charge at the third battery, then lt. Piotr Krasinski lead but was unhorsed and limped back, while the final commander lt. Andrzej Niegolewski lead the fragmented 3rd squadron to the capture of the final 4th battery. The 4th battery was soon lost with the surviving Poles withdrawing back to the 3rd battery, Niegolewski himself was bayoneted and left for dead by the attacking Spanish infantry, but another Polish Lighthorse squadron, the 1st,  and a platoon of the Mounted Chasseurs of the Guard under the overall command of captain Tomasz Łubieński recaptured the 4th battery and then the advancing French infantry secured the victory for the God of War.

Louis-François Lejeune, officer and artist, was there according to his journals, and painted his recollection of the later faze of this struggle - it is probably the most important image of this battle

Famous French painter Horace Vernet created a vision of the battle's aftermath, and it is a very appealing collection of portraits  both men and horses

himself a veteran of Polish army painter extraordinary January Suchodolski  painted his vision of the struggle

late in the XIX century already famous Polish painter Wojciech Kossak attempted to paint the panorama painting of the charge - after making a trip to the battle site and taking notes at the actual place, but he never finished this project (lack of funding mostly), leaving us with large oil-on-canvass sketches.

Sabre and lance drills

Salve,
we have a brand new month ahead of us - a promise of the Spring perhaps as well.
Honouring this new month, I am starting with this 'plate' that I compiled some illustrations from the Polish cavalry manuals (via great Polish horse archery website zurawiejki.pl) regarding lance and sabre training, in the fashion of the uhlans of the prior epochs
