in 2018 I shared some of the horse-related drawings and sketches by the famous Arabian horse breeder and Polish nobleman - count & emir Waclaw Rzewuski.

Perusing Polish National Library digital archives - Polona -  I came across this collection of letters by emir Rzewuski. And there were two sketches in there worth sharing with you.

Camels & beauty in The Holy Land via David Roberts' brushes

 Salvete Omnes,

the last day of May 2024 - and to finish off this month of camels , I have selected some artwork by David Roberts(1796-1864), a Brtish painter and draughtsman,  from his opus magnum - The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt, and Nubia. - from the Holy Land - land of Israel and Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon, Syria & Egypt - in the 1830s AD. 

Amazing skills of observation and composition,  sure hand and careful-for-detail eye - simply put, these works are simply wonderful.

Camels and Carl Rudolf Huber

 Salvete Omnes,

I hereby -:)  declare -;)  the month of May - the month of camels and their riders- and I will try to post more camel-related notes and sources as the month will have progressed. God willing.
oh well I hope to share some history of a camel, both Bactrian and dromedary, as a mount for human riders and a beast of burden through the history of Eurasia and Africa etc.

We can start with some fine art by the XIX century German (Austrian) artist Carl Rudolf Huber.

Victor Pierre Huguet's horses & camels

 Salvete Omnes,

today just a pure art fiesta - paintings by Victor Pierre Huguet - a French XIX century  Orientalist and equestrian painter.

I have been drawing & paintitng some camel images - for my meharist - camel rider- from Palmyra & Hatra little project.

And our maestro Victor Pierre has many of them, the painter having traveled in Western Asia, Crimea, North Africa etc.
