Horses et riders etc - Abraham Bosse

 Salvete Omnes,

the wars, destruction and world economic tribulations & human misery seem to have no end.

So in order to bring a spark or two I corralled some equestrian images from the chisels of a French graphic artist Abraham Bosse (d.1676), active in his native French realm during the wars of his Bourbon kings: Louis XIII and the early wars of Louis XIV. In so many words this was the age of  the famous King's musketeer D'Artagnan and his chivalric companions: Atos, Portos and Aramis (after Dumas' novels) - :) . 

Ad rem, monsieur Bosse excelled in printmaking (etching) and also as a watercolorist.

Great American photographer of horses and nature Robert Vavra (who passed away last Spring 2025) made a whole album-study on the horse behavior with many observations based on the Camargue horses - you can borrow it from Archive. (long time ago I bought a Spanish edition of this unique book).

Paul Jean Gervais - two horses

 Salvete Omnes,

Paul Jean Gervais , French painter educated at the Art Academy of Toulouse and Beaux-Arts de Paris under Jean-Leaon Gerome and Gabriel Ferrier during the latr XIX century,   is not actually known for horses but beautiful female depictions.

So today  I would like to share with you his two horses from his painting, these works show exquisite control and command of the equine anatomy along with his fabulous painting mastery.

These paintings come from the Gervais Hall at the Capitole de Toulouse.
