Anders Zorn and his 4 colors palette

 Salvete Omnes,

a short entry about colors and painting and light etc.

I would like point your attention to the limited color palette known as the Anders Zorn palette (known as Apelles palette) - yellow ochre, vermilion red/cadmium medium red, ivory black and white (lead or titanium white).

James Gurney did a post about this concept, background and its application  - here is maestro Gurney's demonstration in gouache.

some more videos -

Andre Tischler demonstration - video

 Cesar Cordova's demonstration - video

 Aaron Westerberg demonstration - video

 Alex Tzavaras demonstration - video

enjoy Anders Zorn's galleries on Wiki Commons - wonders of watercolor and oils, and plenty of etchings & drawings

there are very few horses in his paintings but Anders Zorn was very skilled, including in sculpting eg

photo from this FB page devoted to painting etc

ciao

Valete
