The Magi en route to Bethlehem - horses and camels

 Salvete Omnes,

on the eve of Christmas Eve , with all the shopping and cleaning still going on, having decorated the Christmas tree, let us turn, for a brief moment, to the beautiful arts.
So we can take a 'peak' at the Magi traveling to Bethlehem, arriving on January 6th, to perform proskynesis in front of Our Lord. The 'peak' through the art of the amazing Middle Ages art

Horses & bits - Jacob Jordaens

 Salvete Omnes,

Christmas is around the corner, so to speak, and let us canter to an atelier of a Flemish master Jacob Jordaens (1593-1678) from Antwerp, who is well known for his numerous mythological and religious paintings. Unusually for that time period and cultural milieu Jacob had only teacher, Adam van Noort, who also taught Peter Paul Rubens.

But as my blog goes I will limit my gallery of Jordaens to his equestrian themed works:

Celtic chariot from a stele from Padua

 Salvete Omnes,

for long time I have been thinking about  posting something about the Celtic chariot of the Iron Age.

While looking at the photos of the 2018 exhibit in Italy - A cavallo del tiemp - on display at the Lemon House in Florence, Italy, I came across this  amazing stele from Museo Civico in Padua. (all images from Wiki Commons).

The object come from pre-Roman period, when the Veneti people fought and traded with the Cisalpine Celtic people west, south, north and north-east  of their own Veneto.

Mike Loades has this article on his page - about reconstructing the Iron Age Celtic Chariot.

On Academia.org there are many articles about the chariot of the Celts.

Esaias van de Velde - ambuscades & attacks

 Salvete  Omnes,

a short entry - Esaias van de Velde (1587-1630AD) - already  I posted one entry on maestro Esaias's drawings last year.

So perhaps a few of his works showing his paintings depicting ambuscades and attacks on the travelers etc in the countryside (he was a master of landscape painting).
