Horse going rough - lithographs from 1860s. Anton Strassgschwandtner fecit

 Salvete Omnes,

In our hemisphere the ending of October brings fog, mist and clouds with rains.. Darkness of November is around the corner.

I corralled some equestrian European lithographs from mid-19th century. Austrian artists Anton Strassgschwandtner created these lithographs based on his own paintings or drawings?

They mostly show riders fighting for control, losing control, horses going rogue or horse accidents .

Bandido -

Great American photographer of horses and nature Robert Vavra (who passed away last Spring 2025) made a whole album-study on the horse behavior with many observations based on the Camargue horses - you can borrow it from Archive. (long time ago I bought a Spanish edition of this unique book).

Horses & bits - Jacob Jordaens

 Salvete Omnes,

Christmas is around the corner, so to speak, and let us canter to an atelier of a Flemish master Jacob Jordaens (1593-1678) from Antwerp, who is well known for his numerous mythological and religious paintings. Unusually for that time period and cultural milieu Jacob had only teacher, Adam van Noort, who also taught Peter Paul Rubens.

But as my blog goes I will limit my gallery of Jordaens to his equestrian themed works:
