Stammbuch Andreas Huber - Cod.Don.899

 Salvete Omnes,

a short entry to this extraordinary Stammbuch of Andreas Huber - a mix of gouaches and woodcuts (of Jost Amman's workshop) from  1584 or the last quarter  of the XVI century. Held at the Württembergische Landesbibliothek Stuttgart (FR of Germany)- follow this  this link

ps
caveat -
the war between Russian Federation and the West being fought in Ukraine, with horrendous losses to the people of that poor country,  has just gotten darker and more dangerous - Russians fired a new type of a hypersonic ballistic missile in Ukraine - prof. Ted Postol talks about this development with US Army colonel(retired) Daniel Davis (on his Yt channel) .  Our world is moving closer to a nuclear war?

Mythical figures on horseback - Jost Amman

 Salvete Omnes,

this image makes a very interesting idea for a watercolor or drawing

Long time ago I posted some woodcuts from  meister Jost Amman's workshop. They were depicting horse care and everyday grooms and horse handlers & drivers.
Today, different but very interesting woodcuts from Jost Amman - including depictions of Mars, Aurora & Apollo.

Marcus Curtius - legendary Roman hero

and two warriors in 'Persian' costume.

Bericht und Ordnung der Gebiss a. 1578 - manuscript

 Salvete Omnes,

at the Austrian National Library they have this manuscript - by our prolific ecuyer Georg Engelhard Lohneysen.
Dated 1578AD it is beautifully written and illustrated - the men leading their mounts - done in gouache

.

.

Hungarian, Ottoman or Polish noble

.

mule or large donkey with a docked tail

the printed version of 1588  is condensed as per images  but equally pleasing in its beauty, but without the plates with horses and mule being led. I do not read old German so to me these plates are it has to be - on Fb there is a group talking and writing about these old German equestrian manuscripts.

Della Cavalleria Das ist - 1624AD

 Salvete Omnes,

Bavarian Digital Library 1624 copy

we will just link the grand equestrian work of German Renaissance - Della Cavalleria Das ist from 1624 - by Georg Engelhard
Löhneysen
. There exists a bit smaller, per number of pages, manuscript with hand-drawn plates from 1578, held by the Austrian National Library.

***
Ecuyer and landowner  by the end of the 1500, Goerog Engelhard served  various dukes of the Welf family, from Saxony to  Brunswick.
Eventually  he bought a printing press , installed it in his estates and started producing his own works through 1625, when they got destroyed during the 30 Years War.
***

and from  his very book come these two plates with  six richly presented saddled war horse of Hungarian, Ottoman Turkish and Polish types.
