Gamirra aka Kimmerians vs Ashurnasirpal II - Parthian shot

Salvete Omnes,

long time ago I made a post about the relief from the British Musuem showing nomads, most likely the Kimmerians , being pursued by the Assyrians under king Ashurnasirpal II (883-859BC) , shooting backwards from the horseback - Parthian shot - and finally making signs of submission towards the pursuing Assyrian chariot.

Today I would like share this image from the said museum - it is a drawing of the said relief (from Kalhu palace) created in situ by Austen Henry Layard in 1840s .

In the drawing some Kimmerian details are more detailed than in the image of the said relief I had back in 2014.
Perhaps will make another drawing based on these detail.

note that the reign of this Neo-Assyrian king was the period when soldiers mounted on horses became a part of the Assyrian army. But these horsemen rode in pairs, where one rider held the reins of the archer's horse who fired the arrows while mounted. A bit more than awkward one could observe .
In contrast our nomads in the relief above do not need that assistance, being completely independent one from another.

Meantime, you can download the drawing from the museum's site or this one above.

Brand New 2019 - Evgeny Kray nomads

Salvete Omnes,
so we have crossed into 2019 - by by 2018 -:)
I would like to start with a link to quite spectacular page - of Evgeny Kray, Russian illustrator who has been reconstructing the ancient Eurasian nomads.
Here is the link to his VK page (including wall photos  and album showing his drawings based on Scythian kurgan of Kul-Oba artefacts).
a Skithian feast, North Pontic V-IV c BC

above and below some of the plates - with all of quite evident errors in horse anatomy etc   - while the costume and armory is his own reconstruction.

Sarmatian - Kuban steppe, III-II c BC
Sarmatina, Filipovka Kurgan
Meothic horseman - Kuban region
Sarmatian from Bosporan Kingdom and a wounded Skithian - III c BC
There are many questions and few answers, but this is one giant step into the visualization of the ancient Eastern European warriors and their horse tack.

I think , bah, I feel and have felt for a long time there is a connection between the ancient nomads of our Eurasian steppes and the mounted Indians of the Americas. I have been studying both over all these years.

Kimmerians - sketches

Salve,
I have been doing some reserach into the Koban culture and the Kimmerioi or Kimmerians (Cimmerians), or 'Gimiraa' in the Assyrian texts,  and obviously there are many sketches I have been drawing.
Nota bene I believe these are the Kimmerians or at least Indoeuropean nomads fighting the Assyrian in IX century BC - first known image of a Parthian shot. Talked about this here

These two are the colour one, in progress, but I would like to share them with you, gentle web travellers :)

If you are in the Northern Hemisphere, enjoy the Fall with its colours.
