Adriaen van de Venne - horse fair

This work by Adriaen van de Venne (1589-1662) offers a quick glimpse into the world of Dutch horse market day back in the XVII century.
The painting is located at Rijks Museum in Netherlands. 

so prince Maurice and Frederick Henry, who appeared in this post on my blog,  arrived at the Valkenburg Horse Fair - in Valkenburg, South Holland. 

And the horsetrading and horsing around started :) ; the painting is full of amazing period detail and Dutch horse culture elements

let us trot to the empirical century aka the Age of Enlightenment and their horses as seen and painted by one Dutch artists - Tethart Philipp  Christian Haag (1737-1812), painter to the rich and famous of the era.

Joachim Beuckelaer - Markets & Fairs & Horses

Joachim Beuckelaer -  XVI century master from Netherlands -
and his bountiful markets with some horses in the background - be it draft or even riding horses(in the Ecce Homo series of paintings)
