Dutch Horses from the ealy 1800s - Pieter Gerardus van Os

 Salvete Omnes, 

when I was preparing  my  post about the Dutch horses in the XIX century art by Anton Mauve's brushwork  I looked up his teachers and teacher's father . One of teachers was Pieter Frederik van Os whose father was  Pieter Gerardus van Os.

Pieter van Os lived during the Napoleonic Wars and in 1813-14 he was a militia officer, a captain, and he participated in the warfare, like the siege of Naarden.

Anton Mauve (1838-1888) is the author of these fine paintings and wonderful drawings.

Three Kings - XII century Psalter illumination

this evening we will celebrate Christmas Eve

 

shepherds and their Holy Land flocks in this late XII century central Italian illumination

meantime enjoy two beautiful renderings of the Nativity -  The Annunciation to Shepherds and Three Kings going to Bethlehem in this XII century English (when Anjou kings ruled the English realm and parts of France) Psalter perhaps made for the Danish Royal family between 1175-1200 held at the Royal Library in Denmark.
