Ahmed 'Ata Tayyarzade (Walters MS 661) - Ottoman horses

The Walters Art Museum has a late (XIX century)  Ottoman manuscript on the training and care of warhorses (Tuhfat ül-farisin fi ahval-i huyul il-mucahidin), in the tradition of the Islamic furusiyya manuals. 

According to the museum it was authored by  Aḥmed ʿAṭā Ṭayyārzāde, 

it was dedicated to the sultan Abdulmecid I (1823-1861) and

Anton Mauve - Dutch horses and cattle of the 1800s

 Salvete Omnes,

just a short entry but with plenty of equine and bovine characters.

Anton Mauve (1838-1888) is the author of these fine paintings and wonderful drawings.

Camels and Carl Rudolf Huber

 Salvete Omnes,

I hereby -:)  declare -;)  the month of May - the month of camels and their riders- and I will try to post more camel-related notes and sources as the month will have progressed. God willing.
oh well I hope to share some history of a camel, both Bactrian and dromedary, as a mount for human riders and a beast of burden through the history of Eurasia and Africa etc.

We can start with some fine art by the XIX century German (Austrian) artist Carl Rudolf Huber.

Jozef Brandt's horse sketches from Polish museums digital collections

another weekend is in full swing - so I would like to share some of the equestrian-themed drawings by this maestro of pencil and brush, from Poland's national collections, like this Brandt's page at the National Museum in Warsaw.

and a 'little' red cow, the gentle bovine that has  been the most wondrous provider of her milk, cream, butter, meat and leather etc  for many thousands of years.

Rosa Bonheur and Buffalo Bill & his Indians 1889

the story of Rosa and  Buffalo Bill as told by the Buffalo Bill Center of the West

A short entry I suppose, but what a grand equestrian artist - Rosa Bonheur and her Plains Indian paintings stemming from William Cody and his Wild West show grand tour and entry  into continental  Europe, especially their visit to Paris during the 'Exposition Universelle' in French capital 1889. Apart from William Cody's troupe there were plenty of Americans displaying their creative might - here an article on the machines and Indians during the Paris Exhibit.

After becoming friendly with Buffalo Bill maestra  Rosa Bonheur painted 17 works based on her studies at the Buffalo Bill Wild West show.

Mastera Rosa had an album of Catlin's works and these sketches are clearly based on Catlin's wokr
