The Holy Week has begun yesterday and it started with an ominous sign the tragic fire and burning of the Gothic Notre Dame of Paris, France, is a disaster of gargantuan proportions and the most sorrowful world tragedy.
There are Polish accents, namely the Paris' Notre Dame
Treasury contained the Polish National treasure - medieval jewel and
symbol of the Polish Crown, the Polish Kings Coronation Reliquary of True Cross - unlawfully taken from our
Polish treasury by the former Polish monarch Jan Kazimierz Waza in
1667-8.
This Reliquary was part of the ceremonial in our Polish
monarchy and the most exceptional treasure. After Jan Kazimierz's
death it was illegally appropriated by the Gonzaga family, his wife's sister took it , and in spite Polish protestations and demands it has
been kept in France since 1668-9.
Nota bene our failed king Jan Kazimierz took unlawfully more Crown Treasures in his exodus from Polish Realms, and those were melted by the French revolutionaries in 1793 (the other evildoers - the Prussian monarchs had our Polish Crown Jewels melted in 1810-11).

Perhaps the time has come that the Polish state could ask the French Republic for the return of our Crown Reliquary?

Viollet le Duc was the architect who remodeled Notre Dame Cathedral after the ravages of the French Revolution - some say in the quite XIX century Neo-Gothic fantasy, or even Disney-like fashion than in a true pre- 1791 style the building had been. https://gallica.bnf.fr/services/engine/search/sru?operation=searchRetrieve&exactSearch=false&collapsing=true&version=1.2&query=(dc.creator%20all%20%22Viollet-le-Duc,%20Eug%C3%A8ne-Emmanuel%22%20or%20dc.contributor%20all%20%22Viollet-le-Duc,%20Eug%C3%A8ne-Emmanuel%22%20)%20&suggest=12&keywords=Viollet-le-Duc,%20Eug%C3%A8ne-Emmanuel&fbclid=IwAR0HfeT_B38G_I4KnvNVVqyKUCi0kuXA6j46o5FPr2LGuXs9I3nuzjTAmKQ

ReplyDelete''Cathedral spokesman Andre Finot told reporters that the building had sustained “colossal damage” and that the medieval wooden interior — a marvel that has inspired awe and wonder for the millions who have visited over the centuries — had been gutted.
“Nothing will remain from the frame,” he said.''
I wonder if this monument survived

French state owns the Cathedral, under their laws, like all the churches built before 1905 or so,
